Opportunities

    All students and postdocs

If you think you would be a good fit for joining my lab, I look forward to hearing from you! Please send me a brief email describing your research interests and how they intersect with the research themes of the lab, along with your CV. I receive many applications for research positions and only consider/reply to applicants when I see potential for a good fit.

    Graduate students

The work in my lab is highly inter-disciplinary, as reflected by the training programs I recruit from. I can supervise graduate students admitted to the following programs:

    Undergrads

All research conducted by undergraduate students is expected to contribute to a publication. For this reason, I can only accept applications from only highly motivated students looking for long-term research opportunities (at least one year).

There will be a trial period in which you will be assigned to an existing project. This trial period will give you the opportunity to learn if the lab is a good fit for you. Team work is highly valued in the lab, so you are expected to fully participate in meetings and other events.

There are many opportunities for you to get credit for doing research in the lab, including:

    • Independent Study (PL PATH 299 course) – for freshmen, sophomores, and juniors
    • Independent Study (PL PATH 699 course) – for seniors
    • Zoology/Botany 152

    Advantages of joining the lab:

    • Participate in state-of-the-art research
    • Gain research experience that is valuable for graduate school and industry
    • Plenty of opportunities to improve science communication (talks, posters, papers)
    • Co-authorship on publications produced in the lab with your contributions
    • Strong commitment to mentoring by me and other senior trainees in the lab
    • Support with grad school/job applications as well as honest letters of recommendation highlighting your strengths in research
